It was a single goal that kept TSF Academy out of the final in Portugal, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of professional Portuguese club S.C. Farense.
Significant wins saw TSF out of the group stages and into the knockout rounds where a meeting with local side Castelo de Vide awaited. A convincing 3-1 victory was enough to secure TSF a semi-final birth.
Mendoza described the boys' performance as, "admirable." "They competed very well and I couldn't have asked any more from them. I am delighted with the way we played and the spirit we showed throughout qualifying and the tournament itself."
"Although we didn't get the result we wanted, the performance was excellent. And that is football, sometimes the game doesn't go your way."
The IVP by Figo7 International Trophy is just one of many overseas competitions the club has taken on. TSF Academy leads annual trips to take on the best of world soccer, including Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Italy and England. Mendoza understands the importance of experiencing soccer outside of the US.
"Soccer in the United States is growing so fast and the quality just keeps getting better and better. But we always want our players to experience different opponents from around the world. Each country has its own style, and unique challenges that our players can learn from."
